I Care! That's
why I am running.
Whitby’s downtown is the
heart of the city, and we all need it for various reasons; our shops,
our schools, our library, our businesses. It’s where some catch the bus,
have a meal, get pampered, grab a pizza, get a hair cut, repair your
car. It’s where our soldiers gather every Remembrance Day, and where our
parades celebrate every holiday season.
downtown should shine as a symbol of Whitby, but this has not been the
case for at least fifteen years. Here is the sad reality of our
downtown: Spray painted walls, broken windows, burglary, street fights,
and a burned church. These are not isolated incidences, but instead a
trend, one that needs to stop. Our downtown needs the attention it
deserves, It is my opinion the Downtown Steering
Committee is not in tune with the realities of downtown, there are plans to deem over 400 buildings as
part of a "heritage district" which will place strict regulations on
peoples’ businesses and homes instead of revitalizing the downtown area.
Our downtown can and must turn around, it should be a symbol of
how wonderful our whole town of Whitby is.
I'm elected your councilor's office will be where it should be: 111
Dundas St. West, in the heart of our town, making it easily accessible
to all Centre Ward constituents.
It is important to protect our
heritage. The Centre Ward action plan includes preserving our heritage
with the complete participation of the stake holders. We need to have it
as a theme and not a law. We don't need a heritage distinct designation.
This is just one of the reasons I am seeking your support in this
